About a Book

I made a commitment at the beginning of the year to read more books.

So far I’ve read 4.  (I can see the smirk on your face.)

Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
Crash the Chatterbox by Steven Furtick
Be Mature by Warren Weirsbe
All In by Mark Batterson

But, going into the (almost) second half of the year I am committing to reading more books.  Again.

I thought as a way to keep me on track, I would share with you some insight into the book I am reading each week.

So, here it goes…

Currently I am in the middle of Chasing God By Angie Smith.

It’s not a book I would have chosen on my own, but I joined a book club and this was the one they were reading.

I’m so glad I picked it up!

In it the author tells about the difference between following God and chasing God.  She talks about all the things we do and don’t do to try getting God’s attention and winning His approval.  Anyone else have a gut punch after that?!

She talks about how “She wasn’t following God; she was trying to catch up with Him.”

Part of the book discusses how we try to see things through our control obsessed eyes and the way we think God should make them happen.  We feel with hands that want to strangle everything that tries to squirm.

My interpretation:  We don’t like change.

Isn’t that the truth?

But, she also relates to being closer to God is not trying to control but sit in His presence.

Ask Him where He wants us to Go.  Then Go.

I’m only half way through the book .  I don’t want to give too much away, but next week I will share a bit more with you.

Has anyone ever read this?  If so, what are your thoughts?
