I just finished reading “Chasing God” by Angie Smith.
It may be on of the fastest books I have ever completed. (And, that’s not saying it was completed in a day or a week mind you.) I usually read a few books at a time, so a book that would normally take me a few days to read may take me a month (ish). I am not the type of person to think reading one book at a time is a good idea. I believe reading five books is so much better, because that way I will be a little confused when I switch back and forth. Oh my word!
In “Chasing God” Angie has a way of drawing you in and making you want to become her best friend. There were many time throughout my reading that I found myself nodding, saying “me too” and shouting “YES!” (Thankfully there was no one else in the room with me. Most of the time.) You know when a book is so good that you want to quote everything on facebook?!? That is this book! And, I am a highlighter when it comes to reading so more of this book is highlighted than not. (To the person who will receive this book now that I am through with it….I apologize.)
Angie has a great way of making you realize all the stuff you are doing to try to please God is just another way of Chasing after Him. But, we were never created to Chase God. We were created to follow Him.
We were meant to be still and allow Him to guide us along this journey called life. Instead of jumping ahead and doing so much, we are called to follow the path God paves for us. But, doing that take patience. Which she shares is not her strong suit, and i’m sure most of us can relate. She also shares about procrastination when it comes to our calling. Which is another reason I probably am so fond of this book. If there was a Master’s in procrastination, I would have it!
All in all I love that you can connect with her because she is real. I would definitely recommend this to someone who is tired of being so busy doing stuff for God that we don’t have time to spend time with Him.
Some quotes from her book:
“We would rather chase the God who rose victoriously than behold the One wounded on our behalf.”
“If you have been tempted to believe that you are not smart enough to understand the Bible, I want you to hear me loud and clear. He wrote it for you.”
“We are in dangerous territory when we start feeling entitled to every detail of God’s majesty.”
