Have you ever told someone they were amazing (awesome/ wonderful/ great), but they replied with,”I’m not amazing.”?
Have you ever had someone tell you how amazing you are and you replied with, “I’m not amazing.”?
I recently told a friend how amazing she was and she replied back telling me how amazing she wasn’t. Honestly, it hurt my heart because I truly do believe she is amazing.
BUT, God quickly reminded me that I do the same thing. (Go figure!) I don’t take compliments well at all.
And in the midst of my thoughts about my awesome friend, God reminded me of something beautiful that I believe more daughters of God need to hear…
YOU, daughter of God, were the reason Jesus hung naked and bled on a cross. He chose to take His own life so you could have yours.
YOU alone are not amazing.
None of us are.
But, Jesus THROUGH you is.
Jesus helping people through you is amazing!
Jesus loving people through you is amazing!
Jesus serving people through you is amazing!
YOU choosing to spend time with Jesus, choosing to serve Him instead of doing other things…is amazing.
No, WE are no where near amazing.
But, HE is!
And, His spirit lives in YOU.
I believe the reason so many of us don’t own the greatness of God THROUGH us, is because we want to remain humble.
And, the Bible has a lot to say about humility:
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,” – 1 Peter 5:6
“But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”- James 4:6
“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.” – James 4:10
But, maybe…just maybe…people are complimenting you because they recognize the work God is doing through you, and what He is able to accomplish because of your obedience!
The problem comes into play when we allow their compliment to go to our head and we lift our chin a little more in a prideful way. That’s where we get in trouble.
We just need to be sure we are lifting our hands higher in worship than we are lifting our chins in pride.
So, next time someone tells you, you are amazing, OWN IT, because Jesus died so you could be.
