What is my purpose?

June 2012.

That was when the first box of handmade gifts shipped to The A21 Campaign in Thessaloniki, Greece for survivors of human trafficking.  Since then, Mandi’s Makings has been able to impact thousands of men, women and children affected by modern day slavery.

Not a week goes by that someone doesn’t reach out to share how amazed they are at what we have accomplished.  When I get to share where we started, how far we’ve come and the doors God has opened, I still can’t believe I get to be part of something so much bigger.

But, what most of you may be surprised to know is that I have spent the past few years (in the midst of all God is doing) praying and asking…

What is my purpose?

Do I have a passion to help raise awareness for trafficking?  Absolutely.

Do I want to send handmade gifts to those affected by human trafficking?  Yes.

There is a burning passion in me to show survivors that God has a plan for their lives.  He is not finished with them yet.  There are greater things ahead!

But, I also…

Have a desire to remind young girls who are struggling with addiction and depression that under the weight of all they are trying to carry, there is a God who wants to carry it for them.  He hasn’t left them.  He is right there.  There is something greater ahead!

Have a desire to show girls who have graduated from college that even though they aren’t sure what they want to do with their life, it’s ok.  They just have to take the next step, pray and trust God to lead them to the calling He has placed on their life.  There is something greater ahead!

Have a desire to encourage women walking through infertility that this doesn’t define them.  It hurts and there is great pain, but God is our source of joy and comfort.  Whether this season lasts a short time or too long to talk about, there is something greater ahead!

Have a desire to watch women move from a life of complacency to a life of fulfillment when they see all that God has for them.  Because…. there is something greater ahead!

As I pray and see all the areas God has positioned me and the women He has allowed me to encourage BECAUSE OF Mandi’s Makings, I realize it’s about more than just impacting survivors.

It’s about showing women that what God has done in my life, He wants to do in theirs too.

It’s about living out the calling God has placed on my life, so anyone watching can see that this is greater than me.

It’s about being obedient to what God has called me to do today, so I can continue to encourage other women to step out of the comfortable life.  To seek a life full of passion for God and His people.

It’s about showing others that we don’t have to have all the answers.  We just have to be willing to take the next step.

Now instead of praying and asking God “What is my purpose?”, I pray…”Show me the next step.”

Then, I take it.

Because, no matter where we are or what we are struggling with…there is something greater ahead.

So, today instead of praying and asking God to show your your purpose, ask Him to show you the next step.

Then, take it.
